The Forbidden Kingdom No More

Yesterday is a day that would forever go down the sands of time as...

"The Day I Fed Two Hundred Ravenous Mouths with Bottomless Pits"

Oh the horror!... The Pain!... The Suffering!!!

Like a swarm of locusts they came, wave upon wave upon wave... Like a farmer protecting his crop I could only look on and stare, as they darkened the sky, before zeroing in for the kill... Tears streamed down my eyes as I watched them strip every last grain of maize and corn that I had planted at the begininning of the year...

My knees thudded to the ground, as I numbly watched the carnage around me, my tired brain barely registering what my eyes perceived.

"So this is what it feels like"... I thought in my brain...

"This thing called Open House"

.
..
...

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I'm just being dramatic here ;)

Yesterday was actually a day that I'm going to remember for a long time, simply because it was graced with the presence of those eager young minds I help shape on a daily basis... my students. From all four faculties that I teach - Mechanical Engineering, Science, Chemical Engineering, Education...

They were all there, All clad in their best clothes and finery (at least the girls were), faces beaming with smiles as they arrived, wishing us Selamat Hari Raya, bantering and joking with the lecturer who terrorised them on a weekly basis in their respective classes...

It was a real pleasure connecting with them on a more personal level, which I do believe, would set up the foundation to a long-lasting relationship in the years ahead.

And then the moment came when they dug into my wife's soto and her famous bergedel, and of course a whole array of assorted foods that an open house would be left wanting without... I was reminded of another student almost a decade ago... A heavyset youth, with a pleasant personality, and an always hungry tummy...

I smiled...

Eat to your heart's content, my students... Your assignments can wait.

Dear Dollah,
You remembered. Thanks & from the comments in your blog, I gather u have really found your forte. I'm still waiting to hear & see the Dr in front of your name.
Anyway, keep up the good work and the spirit that keeps pushing, not only you but also your students.

Me, just an old teacher (like an old soldier) waiting to just fade away.

Bye,

AHO

apakah?berus sental?huhu..kalau next time dtg bz layan anak cmne Sir?ha ha ha..just kidding!;p
Abdullah said…
Liyana,

according to my calculations, for u to be bringing ur child to my open house next year would mean:

Tentative month: September
- 2 months pantang = July (Birth)

- 9 months pregnancy = November...

This would mean that u wud have only about a few days more...

Which would mean by now u shud have been married...

Which wud mean u got married, but didn't invite me...

HEY...

Why didn't u invite me to ur wedding?!!!
Abdullah said…

Forgiveness

How does one forgive someone who has done them and their loved ones so much wrong?

This is a question that I struggle with, and have always struggled with for a long time.
How does one push past the pain and suffering that a person had willingly caused, worse yet, caused to someone that they loved. We stand at the sidelines, and feel ourselves slighted, yet the pain we feel is minuscule, compared to the earth-shattering hurt our loved one experiences. Yet we are powerless, drowning in a helplessness, grasping for any lifeline that can pull ourselves out from the deep.
How can we let go when hatred is all we know. A hatred that festered from seeds of dislike. This poison that we feed ourselves. Yet it is all we know.
How does one tell oneself to let go?
If a person murders your son, and returns a month later, saying he is genuinely sorry; what would you do? He comes in and says he will pay for the cleaning bill, to wipe the blood stains off the floor, and to send the carpet for dry…

The End

I am in a hotel room.

It is unclear who else is in the room. It must be my family. But I am uncertain. I know I am in the room with people I love.

The hotel room is in a building that towers above ground level, and we can see all the houses below.

I am in Hawaii I think. How I know that I do not know. All I know is that we are beside the ocean.

I feel unsettled as I look out the window. Something is compelling me to look outside the window. It is getting dark. But I know by right it should not be dark. It is midday. And then I see it.

In front of me a huge storm cloud is gathering. But I start to quiver because it looks like no ordinary storm. The clouds are pitch black. Black as death. My eyes follow their shape to where they originate. I gasp.

I see a gigantic water spout, a tornado in the ocean, funnelling its energy to the black cloud. The water spout is also pitch black. Rain now pours uncontrollably. It is a hurricane at its full blast, but not just that. It is much, much more.

Aku, Bini dan Ginger Beer

Aku haus...

Aku menadah tangan meminta kembali Ginger Beer kesayanganku yang berjenama Bundaberg buatan New Zealand.

Saat itu tidak tiba-tiba...

Aku tertanya-tanya... Mata terkebil-kebil...

"Ni saya punya ya Bang..." ujar …
